TEHRAN – Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Committee Chairman Alaeddin Boroujerdi stated the Foreign Ministry is pursuing the return of the body of Alireza Asgari to Iran through the International Red Cross.
Boroujerdi said Interim Foreign Minister Ali-Akbar Salehi is officially pursuing the case through the IRC.The MP said in a telephone conversation with United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, Salehi sought the return of Asgari’s body.
According to a report published last Tuesday in some Israeli media, Asgari has died in an Israeli prison.
Iran has said if the news of Asgari’s death is true he must have been killed under a torture by Mossad agents.
Asgari was abducted by Mossad agents in Turkey on December 9, 2006. Boroujerdi added that Iran expects Turkey to identify abductors and release their names.
Although the Zionist media outlets previously claimed that Asgari defected to the West and was granted asylum in a Western country, some Zionist sources announced on Tuesday that Asgari had committed suicide.
However, Boroujerdi told reporters on Sunday the report that Asgari has committed suicide is a intended to divert public opinion.
Abduction of the former Iranian deputy defense minister goes against the international law and is a clear example of state-sponsored terrorism, so the relevant international bodies should respond properly to the Zionist regime’s action, the acting foreign minister told the UN secretary general.
-- Saudi king’s visit to Iran will improve ties
Talking to ISNA, Boroujerdi said a possible travel to Iran by the Saudi king is a positive gesture for improving relations between Tehran and Riyadh.
Saudi Arabia’s King Abdullah bin Abdul-Aziz al-Saud has recently left a New York hospital after receiving treatment. He still stays in New York for recuperation.
According to the Lebanese newspaper al-Safir, King Abdullah would accept Iran’s invitation to visit Tehran.
Boroujerdi said Iran’s policy is to establish good ties with neighboring countries especially the Saudi kingdom.
The lawmaker added currently the important issue is the health condition of the Saudi monarch.
If the king be in a good condition for travelling to Tehran, then his travel would be a positive step.
Pointing to possible nominees for the post of foreign minister, the top legislator said Majlis is waiting the government’s decision
